SEO (Search Engine Optimization) - Basic Concept of Search Engine Optimization

Before going into details of what does SEO means, I should discuss first what does search engines from search engine optimization mean. Search engine is a program designed to helps internet users search for information on the World Wide Web. This information consists of web pages, images and other types of files.

Search engines works in the following order:

* Web crawling - Search engines had their own scripts or programs that is called "bots", "spiders" or "crawlers" which crawls pages and documents that uses hyperlink structure of the web that make up the World Wide Web.
* Indexing - The process used when storing a page that has been crawled in a giant database of documents that make a search engine's index.
* Searching / Processing queries - This is when a request for information. Search engines will retrieve information from its pool of documents that match the query.
* Ranking Results - After search engine determined which results are match for the user's query a ranking results will be shown. The algorithm was responsible for determining which pages are relevant to the given query.

What are SEO and its concept?

SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the practice of optimizing websites by tweaking its internal and external aspects in order to increase both the quality and volume of a website's traffic from search engine by organic results. SEO has been around when the internet was commercialized to public and it was the year where Alta Vista reigned among MSN, Lycos, Excite, Yahoo, Netscape and Info Seek; that year was 1996.

SEO's concept is like what I call a "Phone Directory Theory". This is a theory wherein a person who was looking for a certain product in a phone directory. For example that person was looking for a company who sell cars. The category of cars in the phone directory usually has 5 to 10 pages, now the question here is how a person would chooses a company he will call. The typical person will only call companies that where listed in page 1 until page 3 when he still does not find the perfect deal for that person. This is same with searching in search engines. Lots of websites that were published all over the web how your website can be found by your target market.
