Website Search Engine Optimization

An owner of a website knows that traffic gives money. If your objective is to make some good on-the-side income using your website, than you must get some traffic to your website - and the best way to do so is with website search engine optimization. Why? Because it is free traffic, and it is very targeted. This puts your costs close to nothing, and your profit margin at close to one hundred percent, making you the most money.

It all sounds too good to be true - right? Well it's not. The truth is, website search engine optimization requires a lot of work, depending on your websites nature and keywords. There are, if we break website search engine marketing into general steps, two things you need to do in order to profit from website search engine optimization:

The first, is to make sure that websites recognize which keywords your site is targeted to. For example, you don't want your website that is selling blue apples to show up in the results when someone is looking for green cars. To make sure that your website search engine optimization is profitable, I suggest you look for keywords that are related to your site, but that are, at the same time, searched for a lot. You can use Overture Keyword Tool to do so - find keywords related to your website that many people search for. Now that you have a list of keywords, check out your competition by doing a search on Google. If there are too many important websites (that have a PageRank of 5 or more), then you should focus on other keywords.

Now that you know which keywords to do your website search engine optimization with, you should do the following:

- Insert the keyword(s) in the URL of the website (Ex. website keyword is green apples - www.greenapples.com)
- Insert the keyword(s) in ALT tags whenever an image is on a page
- Don't go crazy with keyword density just have a couple of the keywords well spread out over the page
- Make sure the title of the page contains the keyword(s)

Now, all the factors above should not be overdone. If you insert 5 lines of keywords everywhere, your site will be penalized - simply put your most important keyword and you should focus on that. It's important to understand that Google doesn't like website who "cheat" at website search engine optimization - make your page normal to your visitors and you should be fine.

What you have done here were the on-page factors. Now that Google knows which keywords your website is related to, you need to focus on step 2, and ongoing process:

Get your PageRank higher. The way to do this is by getting links from other websites that are related to yours. It's very hard to do so in the beginning, because your PR will probably be of 0. However, you should try and ask for link exchanges to Webmasters that own websites related to yours. You should also submit some article, leave your link in forum discussions when the topic is related to your site etc. It's important to get your link around the most possible to increase your PR.

However - watch out where you place your link. Some pages may actually take away PR from your site - don't add your site to link farms or to pages where there are hundreds of links on the page. Choose relevant, good-natured websites that people like. Working with quality websites is better than to work with hundreds of non-quality websites.

Nonetheless, the more links you get, the higher of a PageRank you will achieve.
